Spirituality & Service at Saint Mary School of Branford, a Catholic Day School Convenient to New Haven, East Haven, North Branford, Northford, Madison and Guilford, CT
“The story of our Catholic schools continues as an incomparable narrative of sacrifice, leadership and success.” -The Most Reverend Henry J. Mansell, former Archbishop of Hartford.
St. Mary School of Branford, CT teaches more than just the A-B-C’s and 1-2-3’s. Starting with their first day of school, the children receive spiritual guidance and faith formation.
In Pre-K, students begin their journey learning about Saints and the meaning of the special days of religious celebration.
In the 2nd Grade, Catholic children are prepared to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time, and in the 3rd Grade are prepared to receive their First Holy Communion — an exciting time for everyone.
In a time-honored tradition, the First Friday of each month brings the entire student body together at the church for a special Mass, as each grade takes a turn providing readers for Scriptures and petitions and the gift bearers.
Other school gatherings provide opportunities for the students to experience various prayer forms, such as the Rosary, the Stations of the Cross, etc. Every Monday morning, a short “chapel service” is conducted for all the students by one of the parish priests.
Throughout students’ time at St. Mary School, they are encouraged to volunteer and become involved in the spirit of giving to the less fortunate among us. Activities such as food collections and clothing drives provide opportunities to live out the Gospel values learned in the classroom.
Even simply walking the halls of the School can be a religious experience, as one views the various artistic expressions of faith created by the students and displayed on the walls. Each classroom has a small holy water font near its entrance, so that the students can bless themselves as they enter or exit.
Throughout the year we celebrate the seasons of the Catholic Church, such as Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, May Crowning and more.
St. Mary Church, established in 1855, is pleased to sponsor St. Mary School as a major component of its threefold mission of worship, evangelization, and service.
